TCS3200 Color Sensor
COLOR DETECTION PRINCIPLE: Utilizes a programmable light-to-frequency converter with photodiode arrays to detect colors by measuring the intensity of red, green, and blue light components
SENSING CAPABILITY: Capable of identifying a wide range of colors by combining RGB filtered photodiodes, enabling accurate color recognition in embedded systems
DETECTION RANGE: Provides optimal color detection at a distance of approximately 10 mm (1 cm) from the object surface
POWER SPECIFICATIONS: Operates with an input voltage range of 3V to 5V DC, ensuring compatibility with Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi, and other microcontrollers
OUTPUT INTERFACE: Produces a digital square-wave frequency output proportional to the intensity of the detected color, allowing microcontrollers to determine color through frequency measurement
PIN CONFIGURATION: Includes VCC, GND, OUT, S0, S1, S2, S3, and OE pins, where S0–S1 control output frequency scaling and S2–S3 select the color filter array
FREQUENCY SCALING CONTROL: Supports programmable output frequency scaling (2%, 20%, and 100%), enabling flexible measurement across different lighting conditions
ILLUMINATION SYSTEM: Equipped with four onboard white LEDs to illuminate the target object, ensuring reliable color sensing even in low ambient light environments
MODULE DIMENSIONS: Compact module design measuring approximately 20 × 10 × 5 mm, suitable for integration into robotics and embedded electronic projects
APPLICATION SCOPE: Widely used in color detection systems, object sorting machines, robotics vision projects, industrial automation, and smart sensing applications
