Stepper Motor (5V DC)
WORKING PRINCIPLE: The 28BYJ-48 5V DC Stepper Motor operates on the principle of electromagnetic stepping, where electrical pulses are converted into discrete mechanical movements. When sequential pulses are applied to the motor windings through a driver circuit, the rotor moves in precise step increments. Each step corresponds to a fixed angular displacement, allowing accurate positioning. With an internal gear reduction mechanism (64:1), the effective step angle is significantly reduced, providing fine control over rotation and improved torque output.
MODULE STRUCTURE: The motor consists of a compact unipolar stepper motor integrated with a gearbox. It includes multiple coils arranged in phases, which are energized in a specific sequence to produce rotation. The gearbox reduces speed and increases torque, making it suitable for precision applications. The motor has a 5-wire configuration and is typically used with a ULN2003 driver module that provides proper current amplification and control interface.
PIN CONFIGURATION: The motor has five wires: Red – Common power supply (VCC), Blue, Pink, Yellow, Orange – Coil control wires (phases A, B, C, D) connected to the driver module
INTERFACE CONNECTION: The motor operates on a 5V DC supply and is commonly interfaced with a ULN2003 stepper motor driver. The driver is connected to a microcontroller such as Arduino, which sends pulse sequences to control the motor’s direction, speed, and step position. The ULN2003 module amplifies control signals to drive the motor efficiently.
OUTPUT FUNCTION: The motor provides precise step-by-step rotational movement. In full-step mode, each step corresponds to 11.25°, resulting in 32 steps per revolution before gear reduction. With the internal 64:1 gear ratio, it achieves finer resolution and outputs slow rotational speeds (approximately 15 RPM) with improved torque, making it ideal for controlled motion applications.
OPERATING VOLTAGE: 5V DC
SIGNAL CONDITIONING: The motor is controlled by pulse sequences sent through the driver circuit. The number of pulses determines the angle of rotation, while the frequency of pulses controls the speed. The ULN2003 driver ensures proper current amplification and stable switching of motor phases for reliable operation.
