WORKING PRINCIPLE: An RGB LED operates based on the principle of electroluminescence, where light is produced when electric current flows through semiconductor materials. Inside the RGB LED, three separate LED chips—Red, Green, and Blue—are enclosed within a single package. By controlling the intensity of each LED using different current levels or Pulse Width Modulation (PWM), a wide range of colors can be produced through color mixing.

MODULE STRUCTURE: The RGB LED consists of three individual LED chips placed inside one transparent 5 mm LED package. These chips emit red, green, and blue light respectively. When combined in different brightness levels, they create multiple colors. In a Common Anode RGB LED, the positive terminal of all three LEDs is internally connected together.

PIN CONFIGURATION: An RGB LED has four pins: Common Anode (+) – Shared positive terminal connected to the power supply, Red Pin – Controls the red LED, Green Pin – Controls the green LED, Blue Pin – Controls the blue LED.

INTERFACE CONNECTION: In a common anode configuration, the common pin is connected to +5V, while the red, green, and blue pins are connected to microcontroller output pins through current-limiting resistors. The brightness of each color can be controlled using PWM signals from microcontrollers such as Arduino, ESP boards, STM32, or Raspberry Pi.

OUTPUT DISPLAY: By adjusting the intensity of the red, green, and blue LEDs, the module can produce a wide range of colors including secondary colors such as cyan, magenta, and yellow. This allows dynamic lighting effects and color indication in electronic circuits.

OPERATING VOLTAGE: Typical forward voltages for each color are: Red LED: Approximately 2V, Green LED: Approximately 3.2V, Blue LED: Approximately 3.2V

SIGNAL CONDITIONING: Each color pin should be connected with an appropriate current-limiting resistor to prevent excessive current flow and protect the LED. PWM control from a microcontroller can be used to adjust brightness and mix colors smoothly.

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS: LED Type: RGB Tri-Color LED, LED Size: 5 mm

APPLICATION SCOPE: RGB LEDs are commonly used in electronic projects for color indicators, decorative lighting, mood lighting systems, signal indicators, and interactive displays. They are widely used in Arduino projects, robotics, automation panels, IoT devices, and educational electronics experiments.
