Raspberry Pi NoIR Camera Module (V2)

WORKING PRINCIPLE: The Raspberry Pi NoIR Camera Module V2 is designed for capturing images and video without an infrared filter, enabling night vision and low-light photography. It integrates an 8-megapixel Sony IMX219 sensor that converts light (including infrared) into digital signals. The module outputs high-resolution still images and supports multiple video modes. The 15-pin MIPI Camera Serial Interface (CSI) ensures high-speed, reliable data transfer to the Raspberry Pi for image processing, surveillance, and embedded vision applications.
MODULE STRUCTURE: The compact module houses the Sony IMX219PQ sensor with a fixed focus lens on a small PCB. It measures 25 × 20 × 9 mm and weighs approximately 5 g. The module connects directly to Raspberry Pi boards via the CSI connector, allowing easy installation and secure attachment.
PIN CONFIGURATION / INTERFACE CONNECTION: Connects through the 15-pin MIPI CSI interface. Ribbon cable orientation and secure insertion are required for proper operation. The module can be accessed via MMAL, V4L APIs, or third-party libraries such as Picamera for Python.
OUTPUT FUNCTION: Captures high-resolution still images at 3280 × 2464 pixels and supports video recording at 1080p30, 720p60, and 640x480p60/90. Ideal for infrared photography, low-light monitoring, plant growth observation, and CCTV applications.
OPERATING VOLTAGE: Powered through the Raspberry Pi CSI interface. Standard Pi voltage requirements apply.
SIGNAL CONDITIONING: The image sensor processes light digitally, with no infrared filtering, allowing enhanced sensitivity under low-light and infrared illumination. Video and image output are delivered via CSI for real-time processing.
