Piezo Buzzer
WORKING PRINCIPLE: A small piezo buzzer operates based on the piezoelectric effect. Inside the buzzer, a piezoelectric ceramic disc is attached to a metal plate. When an electrical voltage is applied, the ceramic material expands and contracts rapidly, causing the metal plate to vibrate. These vibrations produce sound waves that can be heard as a beep or tone. The buzzer generates sound when driven by an electrical signal at its resonant frequency.
MODULE STRUCTURE: The device consists of a piezoelectric element enclosed in a protective plastic housing. The housing protects the internal ceramic disc and helps amplify the sound produced by the vibrating plate. The compact cylindrical structure allows easy integration into electronic circuits and embedded devices.
PIN CONFIGURATION: The buzzer has two terminals: Positive (+) – Power supply input, Negative (−) – Ground connection
INTERFACE CONNECTION: The piezo buzzer can be directly connected to microcontrollers such as Arduino, ESP8266, ESP32, STM32, and other embedded boards. It can also be powered from a battery supply. When voltage is applied across the terminals, the buzzer produces an audible tone.
OUTPUT FUNCTION: The buzzer produces a clear audible beep that can be used for alerts, warnings, notifications, and signal indications in electronic systems.
OPERATING VOLTAGE: The device typically operates with an input voltage of 3.3V DC, making it suitable for low-voltage microcontroller applications.
SIGNAL CONDITIONING: The buzzer produces sound efficiently near its resonant frequency, where the vibration amplitude of the piezo element is maximum. A control signal from a microcontroller can be used to generate short beeps or repeated sound patterns.
CHARACTERISTICS: Operating Voltage: 3.3V DC, Rated Voltage: 5V DC, Maximum Rated Current: 40 mA, Coil Resistance (DC): 45 ± 5 Ω, Resonant Frequency: Approximately 2400 Hz.
APPLICATION SCOPE: Small piezo buzzers are widely used in electronic circuits that require audible alerts. Typical applications include alarm systems, timers, reminder devices, Arduino and DIY electronics projects, educational kits, electronic toys, medical equipment alerts, and automotive warning systems.
