OV2640 Camera Module

WORKING PRINCIPLE: The OV2640 camera module is a 2-megapixel CMOS image sensor designed for embedded vision applications. When powered, the sensor captures light through its lens and converts it into digital image data. The module provides full-frame, sub-sampled, or windowed 8-bit images, which are processed internally to optimize image quality and output. The Serial Camera Control Bus (SCCB) interface allows full control over exposure, gain, white balance, and other imaging parameters.
MODULE STRUCTURE: The module consists of the OV2640 sensor integrated on a compact PCB, with a 67° field-of-view lens and an SCCB connector for interfacing. The sensor includes a full image signal processor (ISP) capable of noise reduction, defect correction, and automatic image control functions. Its low-voltage design makes it suitable for portable embedded applications.
PIN CONFIGURATION: The camera module exposes pins for power (VCC, GND), clock, data, and control signals through the SCCB connector. These pins enable seamless integration with microcontrollers and other embedded systems, providing both image data and configuration control.
INTERFACE CONNECTION: The OV2640 uses the SCCB interface, which is compatible with I2C, for configuring and controlling imaging parameters such as resolution, frame rate, exposure, and white balance. Digital RGB data is output directly for processing or display.
OUTPUT FUNCTION: The module delivers 2-megapixel images at up to 30 frames per second in VGA mode. It supports scaling, windowing, and sub-sampling to optimize data transfer and performance for various embedded vision applications. Automatic image control ensures consistent exposure, gain, and color balance, even in low-light conditions.

SIGNAL CONDITIONING: The internal ISP performs automatic exposure control (AEC), automatic gain control (AGC), automatic white balance (AWB), automatic band filter (ABF), and automatic black-level calibration (ABLC). Noise reduction and defect correction further enhance image quality.
