MG996R Servo Motor
WORKING PRINCIPLE: The MG996R Metal Gear Servo Motor (180 Degree) operates as a closed-loop electromechanical actuator that converts electrical PWM signals into controlled angular motion. When a PWM signal is applied, the internal control circuit compares the commanded position with feedback from the potentiometer connected to the output shaft. The motor then rotates until the desired angular position is reached. The integrated gear train reduces speed while increasing torque, enabling precise positioning within a range of approximately 0° to 180°.
MODULE STRUCTURE: The servo consists of a high-torque DC motor, a metal gear train, a feedback potentiometer, and an internal control circuit enclosed in a robust casing. The metal gears provide enhanced durability and load-handling capability. The module includes a standard 3-pin connector for power and signal, along with mounting brackets and horns for mechanical integration. Its compact structure allows easy installation in robotic arms, RC systems, and mechanical assemblies.
PIN CONFIGURATION: The servo has three wires: Red – Connect to the positive terminal of the power supply, Brown – Connect to ground (negative terminal), Orange – Connect to the PWM signal from a microcontroller or servo controller
INTERFACE CONNECTION: The MG996R operates within a voltage range of 4.8V to 7.2V DC. It is typically interfaced with microcontrollers such as Arduino or Raspberry Pi using PWM signals. No external motor driver is required, as the servo contains an internal control circuit for position control.
OUTPUT FUNCTION: The servo provides angular positioning over approximately 0° to 180° with high torque output. It delivers a stall torque of about 9.4 kg-cm at 4.8V and up to 11 kg-cm at 6V, making it suitable for heavy-load applications requiring strong holding capability and precise movement.
OPERATING VOLTAGE: 4.8V – 7.2V DC
SIGNAL CONDITIONING: The servo is controlled using PWM signals, where the pulse width determines the target angular position. The internal feedback mechanism continuously adjusts the motor to maintain the commanded position, ensuring accurate and stable operation even under load.
