BMP180 Pressure Sensor
PRESSURE MEASUREMENT PRINCIPLE: Measures atmospheric pressure using a high-precision piezoresistive sensing element. Variations in air pressure change the internal resistance of the sensor, and the signal is converted into digital values through an integrated ADC.
OPERATING VOLTAGE: Supports an input supply voltage of 1.8V to 3.6V DC, while the module board typically accepts 3V to 5V input for convenient interfacing with microcontrollers.
PRESSURE MEASUREMENT RANGE: Capable of measuring atmospheric pressure from 300 hPa to 1100 hPa, corresponding to an altitude range from approximately 9000 m above sea level to about –500 m.
ALTITUDE RESOLUTION: Provides high measurement resolution up to 0.03 hPa, which corresponds to approximately 0.25 m altitude resolution.
TEMPERATURE RANGE: Operates reliably within a temperature range of –40°C to +85°C with a temperature accuracy of approximately ±2°C.
COMMUNICATION INTERFACE: Uses the I2C communication protocol with a 7-bit device address of 0x77 for efficient data transfer between the sensor and the microcontroller.
POWER CONSUMPTION: Extremely low power consumption of approximately 0.5 µA at 1 Hz measurement rate, making it suitable for battery-powered and portable applications.
INTERFACE DESIGN: Provides a 4-pin I2C interface (VCC, GND, SDA, SCL) for simple communication with microcontrollers.
DATA OUTPUT: Provides pressure and temperature measurements as 16-bit digital values that can be used to compute altitude and environmental conditions.
MODULE DIMENSIONS: Compact module with approximate dimensions of 2 cm × 1 cm × 1 cm and lightweight design of about 5 grams.
APPLICATION SCOPE: Commonly used in weather monitoring systems, altitude measurement in drones and robots, navigation systems, environmental monitoring, and IoT-based atmospheric sensing applications.
